System requirements

System Requirements for Cadwork® V27

Operating System (OS)

All Windows® 10 64-bit editions except S.

Processor (CPU)

All Intel® processors that are equal or above the Intel® Core™ i5, 3rd generation are supported. An Intel® Core™ i7, 5th generation is recommended. A processor with a high base clock speed of 3.5GHz (Workstation) or 2.5GHz (Laptop) is recommended. Typically, clock speed is preferred over core count.

Graphics Card (GPU)

NVIDIA Quadro® P and RTX or NVIDIA GeForce® GTX 10XX series or more graphics cards are supported. Graphics cards should have at least 2GB of memory. All other graphics cards have not been tested and could therefore have graphics display or performance issues. Experience has shown that multiple monitors are significantly increasing efficiency and comfort while using Cadwork® or while doing other tasks on the PC. Therefore, graphics cards with multiple video outputs are suggested. Ensure the resolution is at least HD (1920x1080). 4K monitors do not give any specific advantages at this time. On all monitors and at all time, the Windows® scaling factor should be kept at 100%.

Memory (RAM)

The bare minimum recommended memory is 16GB but at least 32GB for optimal results. For BIM and IFC, 32GB is the minimum and 64GB is recommended. Memory should not be neglected.

Solid State Drive (SSD)

The operating system and frequently used programs should be installed on an SSD to reduce saving, writing and reading time.

Internet and Network

A high-speed internet connection for weekly updates of the software and online technical support via TeamViewer is required. At least one computer in the office should have access to that internet connection. For saving on a server, or sharing catalogs and user files, a Gigabit network is recommended.

Hardware

A mouse with at least 3 clickable buttons is required. Left, Middle and Right clicks are used everywhere in the software.
For laptops, a keyboard with an integrated numpad is highly recommended, the same goes for an external keyboard.

Summary

The required specifications for a computer depend enormously on the type of work (academic, professional, mass timber, panelized construction) and the size of projects that will be worked on. With higher hardware specifications, larger projects can still be handled with a decent speed.

Before buying a new PC or a new piece of hardware, Cadwork® recommends contacting the technical support team with detailed hardware specifications of the future purchase in hand.
